Who Would Benefit From This Course
Arc Flash and Electrical Safety Awareness Training is designed for individuals who work near live, exposed electrical conductors. This includes, but is not limited to, electricians, property managers, millwrights, maintenance team members, supervisors, health and safety professionals, Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) members, and health and safety representatives. The course provides essential knowledge for recognizing electrical hazards and implementing safety practices in environments where electrical risks are present.
Course Content
Participants will receive a thorough overview of applicable legislation, along with a detailed review of CSA Standard Z462-18 and NFPA 70E. The course explores the characteristics and dangers of electrical shock, burns, and arc flash incidents. It also examines the contributing factors that can lead to such events and the common hazards associated with working around energized equipment.
A key focus is placed on identifying and reducing risks through appropriate control measures. This includes the selection and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and engineering controls. The course also reviews how Emergency Response Teams (ERTs) should respond in the event of electrical shock, burns, or arc flash incidents.
If available prior to the session, company- or client-specific procedures will also be reviewed to ensure training is aligned with workplace protocols and emergency plans.
